Thumpin' wows the crowd at the first Rock & Rails of summer

Camryn Bell

Rock & Rails' 13-week Summer Concert Series opened on Thursday, June 4, with the familiar face and sounds of Gunbarrel's singer-songwriter Dean Himes. The nostalgic, life-filled music that Himes shared with the crowd included both original songs and covers. Towards the end of his performance, Himes worried that the slower songs he played may put the crowd to sleep. For the remainder of his set, he made sure to play upbeat selections. Thumpin', the headlining group following Himes featured ten...

The Sheriff’s Office reported that the couple was driving north on Highway 287 when a sedan began tailgating them. At the light at Lookout Road, the sedan’s driver pulled alongside, yelled at them, and displayed what appeared to be a handgun. When the light...

Niwot Paints the Town art auction kicks off The Next Century Project

Kevin Schoonover

"When they invented this ladder, they didn't anticipate it being a drink holder," said Jim Dorvee, president of Niwot Hall, speaking outside of that institution. He was situated on a ladder, on which a drink was precariously perched. Such exaptation is common in art. Artists cannot anticipate how their art will be interpreted. Dorvee was speaking at the "Niwot Paints the Town" art auction fundraiser for Niwot Hall and the Tree Carving Committee which is part of the broader Next Century Project...

The Left Hand Valley should tune into the World Cup

Madison Shaw

There are very few things left in the world that feel truly universal. The World Cup is one of them. For almost six weeks, the planet seems to move together. Streets in Buenos Aires erupt at midnight. Entire neighborhoods in Morocco pause for penalty kicks. Someone in Tokyo wakes up at 4 a.m. to watch a group stage match that technically means nothing and somehow means everything. Meanwhile, here in Colorado, we are walking through Cottonwood Square with iced coffees, driving to youth soccer...

"Being Laramie Buchanan" by Cynthia L. Clark

Kevin Schoonover

"Being Laramie Buchanan? It's not like 'Being John Malkovich?'" "That's not my speed," Cynthia L. Clark explained. "It's my sixth novel. The first one was called 'Boulder Girl, Remember Me When the Moon Hangs Low.' And then I've just taken that Boulder theme through all of the novels. So I call it my Boulder Series, but that's sort of an informal way of looking at it. All of the protagonist women are redheads. So I call it my 'Redhead Series' as well." "But all of my books begin with a...

    Madison Shaw

Former players waited to hug longtime coach Bob Banning as he stepped off the stage. Members of the 1990 state championship football team laughed through decades-old stories before wiping away tears moments later. Families, coaches, teammates, and alumni lingered outside...
